Pre-Waxing Care:

  • Personal hygiene is important! Please bathe and or freshen up before your wax treatment.
  • Skip the lotions and potions! Do not apply self tanners, body sprays, deodorants and other topical creams before your appointment.
  • Let it grow out! If you have been shaving, allow a minimum of 2-3 weeks or ¼ inch of hair growth.
  • Avoid heat. No tanning beds, hot tubs and saunas before your appointment.
  • Exfoliate! Exfoliating the area gently 24 hours before your appointment will remove the dead skin cells and allow for a cleaner wax.
  • Keep Calm. Don’t feel rushed or pressured. I have your best interest in mind and heart.
  • Be comfy. Wear loose, comfortable clothing to prevent irritation after waxing.

Post-Waxing Care:

* Everyone reacts differently to waxing. If this is your first time, it is important to take precaution.

  • Again, stay comfy. Wear loose, comfortable clothing to prevent irritation after waxing, especially after a Brazilian/Brozilian wax. Cotton or breathable clothing is best.
  • Keep hands away from touching freshly waxed skin, as it can encourage irritation or small pimples.
  • Heightened sensitivity may be experienced in the area waxed for the next 24-48 hours.
  • Avoid heat. No tanning, sun bathing, hot tubs or saunas for 48 hours after your treatment. Since a layer of dead skin cells have been removed, sun and or heat exposure can burn the skin.
  • Avoid shaving between waxes. Shaving causes the hairs to become very coarse and can be difficult to wax.
  • No hot baths or exercising for 2 hours following your treatment.
  • No harsh cleansers or creams for at least 24 hours post wax, it can be extremely irritating.
  • Sexual activity should be avoided for at least 24-48 hours post wax.
  • Apply a cold compress to sooth the skin if you experience sensitivity or irritation after your treatment. Hydro-cortisone cream also reduces the redness and irritation following your treatment.
  • Exfoliate daily 48 hours after your treatment. I recommend dry brushing, using sugar scrubs, or exfoliating gloves during this time.

It’s normal immediately after your wax for a little bit of redness and a prickly heat type rash to appear. This should disappear after a few hours and is normally due to a histamine reaction. Because waxing removes the hair at the root, it’s important that you keep the area clean and bacteria free. If an infection is noted, it should be evaluated and treated by a doctor as soon as possible.

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is another form of physical exfoliation, which sloughs off the dead and dull surface layers of the skin. Ideal for smoothing and improving skin texture, tone, and color while stimulating collagen production to create healthy new skin cells. Microdermabrasion can also improve: oily or dull skin, enlarged pores, clogged pores, fine lines, and dull looking skin. Here at AliciaDion Beauty, this is a crystal free treatment method using natural diamond tipped wands instead of abrasive particles for skin resurfacing. This treatment works best as a regular treatment supporting your skin regime. For optimal results, I reccommend an initial course of 6, one taken every 2 weeks with a maintenance treatment every 6 weeks thereafter.

Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels

How Long is the Procedure and How Does It Feel?

Generally a chemical peel takes 30-45 minutes. During the procedure, you will feel a warmth and tingling sensation over the area being treated.  You may feel stinging, burning, and even itching and can vary from mild to intense, depending on the type of peel being performed. The esthetician performing the peel will either fan the area being peeled or provide you with fan to ease any discomfort. All sensations will stop once the acids are neutralized.

Reasons to get a Chemical Peel
A chemical peel will:

  1. Improve the texture of your skin

  2. Increase the cell turnover rate of your skin

  3. Improve your skin’s ability to hold moisture

  4. Help your skin produce more collagen

  5. Reduce fine lines

  6. Decrease hyperpigmentation

  7. Unclog pores and help clear up acne

  8. Leave your skin smooth

  9. Make your skin softer

  10. Make your skin look more even-toned

  11. Give you a “glow”

  12. Make your skin look dewy

  13. Improve minor scarring

Who Can Get a Chemical Peel?

Almost anyone can get a peel as long as they don’t have any of the exceptions listed below.  Generally people with darker skin need to take more precautions before getting a peel and must make sure that the peel they are receiving is formulated for their skin type and done by an experienced, licensed professional.  The reason for this is that very strong chemical peels can actually cause more hyperpigmentation on darker skin if done improperly.

  • Pregnant and nursing. Women not receive peels since there are no studies, as of yet, about the effects of peels on fetuses or nursing babies.

  • If you have taken or have just gotten off of Accutane within the last 6 months.

  • If you are prone to cold sores a peel can actually bring on an outbreak so you need to take anti-viral medication before, the day of, and the day after your treatment.

  • If you have a tendency to scar, are taking antibiotics, have cancer or an autoimmune disease, or have an open sore you cannot get a chemical peel.

How Does The Esthetician Know What Type of Peel I Need?

Before you get a peel you will have a complimentary skincare consultation with your esthetician so she can answer all of your questions and provide you with the proper pre-peel regimen (so your skin in properly prepped for the day of the treatment).

Before your peel, you will also need to fill out a skincare and history questionnaire which accesses your skin type, medical conditions, allergies, the products you are currently using, and the results you want to achieve.  An esthetician must keep many factors in mind before performing a peel so that the client gets the best possible result with the fewest possible side effects.

If you are new to peels, it is highly recommended that you start with a lighter peel the first time you get a chemical peel and build up the strength of your peels from there.  All of these issues should be discussed with your esthetician before you receive your first peel.

After Chemical Peel Instructions:

  • Immediately following peel, take extra precaution to guard against exposure to sun. This means 30 SPF applied consistently throughout the day and a large brimmed hat (not a visor or baseball cap). REAPPLY, REAPPLY, REAPPLY.
  • First night, do not wash face at all.
  • Days 2 through 6, avoid hard cleansers, Retin-A, AHAs, or Benzoyl Peroxide. Wash twice daily with a gentle cleanser.
  • Please do not exfoliate using any scrubs, cleansing brushes, washcloths, or acid/enzyme based products for 8-13 days; longer if done on body.
  • PAT. DO NOT RUB. This applies to drying the skin or putting product onto the skin.
  • Apply a light moisturizer or serum after cleansing and throughout the day, if needed. Do not OVER moisturize. While the skin does need to be kept moist to prevent cracking or crusting, we must remember the purpose of the chemical peel is to peel.
  • DO NOT PICK OR PULL THE SKIN, as scarring and hypopigmentation (white spots) can occur.
  • It is safe to wear makeup 24 hours after application, but I do not recommend until after flaking has stopped. If you had a more aggressive peel (TCA/Jessner), avoid makeup for the first week.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise or activity for the first 48 hours. Yes, this can include sexual activity.
  • Do not get any other facial treatments/procedures for at least one week after peel or until flaking stops.
  • Discontinue the use of Retinol or Retin-A products for a week after treatment.
  • Do not have electrolysis, facial injections, facial waxing, or use depilatories for approximately two weeks after treatment.
  • ABSOLUTELY do not go to a tanning booth for at least 4-6 weeks after a treatment.

* Everyone will not experience peeling of their facial skin. However, this is not an indication that the peel was ineffective. If peeling does not occur please know that you are still receiving all the benefits of the peel, such as: stimulation of collagen production, improvement of skin tone and texture, and diminished fine lines and pigmentation.

How often can I do ultrasonic peeling?

The frequency of procedures is appointed by a beautician individually. Usually it starts out with a series of sessions: at least 6 at intervals of 1-2 weeks. After that, ultrasonic cleaning of the face can be done once every 2 months.

You can do the IPL after ultrasonic peeling?

Since both procedures — stress for the skin, the interval between them must be at least 2 weeks in order to avoid complications with the skin.

Why choose chemical peels or ultrasonic cleaning?

Chemical peels, despite their high efficiency, has one significant drawback: it is traumatic and can leave behind a burn, not only the superficial but the deep layer of the dermis. If you have serious skin problems that cannot be solved by other methods, it’s worth the risk and give preference to chemistry. If you need to only lightly clean the upper epidermis, without hesitation, choose ultrasound.

With regular use of this innovative method of cleaning, the skin will be transformed and will look at any time of year is amazing. If you want to look young and well-groomed, we strongly suggest you to get accustomed to this very effective and simple procedure. Treat your skin with this cleaning once, you will again and again to return to the salon to refresh her.

Lets Talk…

Getting a facial is commonly seen as something you do only when you want to treat yourself, or as a luxury service whose benefits are reserved for only the rich and famous who can afford it. Lets face it; they can be a bit pricey. But take a moment to consider where your money is spent instead. Are facials really more expensive in the long run?

A staggering amount of pollution, dirt, grime, and dead skin accumulates on the face. This build up is an unavoidable fact of life. We can do the best we can to keep the skin clean, but it is not always enough.

Many advocates compare getting a facial to going to the dentist. We brush our teeth, floss when we remember, and still acknowledge the importance of going to the dentist for a regular deep clean. Keeping up with dentist appointments saves us a lot of money down the road. A root canal is hundreds of dollars more than a regular cleaning. Like our teeth, the skin needs to be evaluated and cleansed by a trained professional every so often to maintain a healthy complexion. An esthetician should be seen as the dentist for our skin. Getting facials on a regular basis, even once every few months or year, will save you from needless spending in the future.

How can facials save you money at AliciaDion Beauty?

Makeup and Skincare Products:

After receiving a facial, makeup goes on more smoothly and evenly. You may be surprised at how little, if any, is needed. In terms of skincare products, a facial will help make sure you are getting your money’s worth. An esthetician deeply cleanses and exfoliates the face, allowing all your products to fully absorb and do their jobs properly. Having your skin examined by a professional can also teach you a lot about what products are appropriate for your skin type.

Anti-aging Treatments: Facials are the best anti-aging treatment around. Treating yourself to a facial every so often will decrease your chances of having to dish out money for expensive procedures and injections. Facials improve the skin’s tone, texture, and elasticity by counteracting the damaging effects of air pollution and sun exposure.

Other Benefits of Facials…

Refreshed and Relaxed Skin:

With each facial, a facial massage is often incorporated. The massage alone works wonders on tired, wrinkled skin. An esthetician is trained on how to appropriately massage the face. Believe or not, certain areas of the face need to be massaged in different ways. If done incorrectly, a massage can do more harm than good, and lead to sagging The massage also encourages lymphatic drainage as it flushes out toxins while promoting circulation.

Skin Cell Renewal:

One of the most important steps of a facial is exfoliation. Having your skin exfoliated by a professional often means getting microdermabrasion or having a fruit acid peel to help remove dead skin. This part of the facial process helps jump start cell turnover, encouraging the growth of new, healthy cells. Regular exfoliation by a professional will work wonders are those looking to diminish the appearance of acne scars and for men, help reduce the amount of ingrown hairs and skin outbreaks.

Noticeable and Instant Results:

The best part about getting a facial is that the results are instant. Rarely do you come across a skin treatment or product that lives up to your high expectations. After just one facial, you will see an immediate improvement in the appearance of your skin.

Regular facials leave your skin looking and feeling its best, but depending on the facial you receive, it may not happen right away. Directly after your session, you may notice redness even with a gentle treatment, and post-facial breakouts are a common phenomenon when skin doesn’t receive the tender care it deserves. Here’s how you can minimize redness, blemishes and discomfort following your facial.

Over-zealous scrubbing and harsh cleansers can leave skin that’s already undergone exfoliation and extraction feeling irritated. During your facial, your esthetician has already performed the deep cleansing and exfoliation you might otherwise do weekly or monthly, so give your face a break from vigorous scrubbing for at least 48 hours after your session.

When it’s time to wash your face, choose gentle, non-comedogenic cream or foam cleansing agents. Use your fingertips, not a sponge or washcloth that could contain trapped bacteria and feel too harsh for sensitive post-facial skin, and wash with lukewarm water. Forget the toner for the first few washes after your facial; the astringent ingredients in toners aren’t needed for your freshly cleaned face, and they could sting.

Depending on the kind of facial you choose, you may have already had steaming or heat treatment for your skin. Under an experienced esthetician’s care, steaming sessions last long enough to stimulate circulation and open pores, but too much of it can lead to broken capillaries and skin sensitivity.

On the day of your facial, take an umbrella or a broad-brimmed hat with you. Your skin needs sun protection. In fact, limit time spent in the sun after a facial since some chemical exfoliations can leave skin more photosensitive. If are going into the sun and you normally use a chemical sunscreen, you might find it uncomfortable for a few days after a facial. New versions of titanium oxide sunscreens are just as effective and don’t give you that lifeguard look of a stripe of chalk-white on your nose. Be lavish with your sunscreen use for at least a week following a facial.

Extractions are sometimes necessary for clearer skin in the long run, but they leave your skin vulnerable right after your appointment. Your aesthetician will apply soothing and protective products to minimize post-facial breakouts, but avoid using non-sterile makeup applicators on your face or touching your hands to your skin too often following a facial that includes extraction.

The key to getting your best skin possible from facial treatments is setting a schedule. Skin loves routine, so work with your esthetician to develop a post-facial regimen that leaves your skin healthy and happy.
